ERC Synergy Project
MULTIPROBE: innovation in endoscopic imaging
and
plasma treatment
MULTIPROBE is a European project dedicated to multimodal endoscopic imaging and treatment based on nonlinear multimode optical fibers, combining breakthrough technologies to revolutionize medical diagnostics and treatment.

Advanced technologies for multimodal endoscopic imaging and treatment
Endoscopy is a diagnostic tool for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, but it lacks the sufficient reliability for widespread use. Reliance on histopathology delays cancer treatment and increases costs, highlighting the need for optical biopsy and real-time pathology tools. The ERC-funded MULTIPROBE project aims to develop a photonic technology that advances optical diagnostics and therapy. It will create an endoscopic device that combines optical biopsy and cold atmospheric plasma treatment. This dual-function device utilises advanced multimode fibres and precise light control, previously underutilised due to concerns about light degradation. Focusing on GI endoscopy, the project seeks to bring real-time, in-vivo optical diagnostics (optical biopsy) to fruition. Integrating this with cold atmospheric plasma therapy could provide both immediate diagnosis and therapeutic intervention.
